Warranty

Case 305**** **** Etec G2 Serial #0552**** Model#C200FXABA I recently bought a boat with the above motor. The motor had 47 hours. I put 6 hours on it before it locked up. I understand its under warranty. I bought the boat because it had a low hour Etec motor. I took the boat to Markey Marine Key Largo, Fl. 02/09/2023. It was determined that the motor needed a powerhead. I was told today that you needed additional diagnostics before you would approve the repair as per your warranty. My question, what is a reasonable length of time for repairs to be made? Im sure the dealer wants the boat done and gone. Ive lost 2 months of usage and I have to pay another $400.00 for dock fee to keep my spot. Your assistance would be greatly appreciated. Im completely in the dark. Thank you, Paul Constantino

User's recommendation: If you have an Evinrude Etec get rid of it. I waited 5 months for a powerhead that was under warranty. Always some excuse. In the end I had to pay $900.00 for an injector kit that I had to buy out of Canada. There wasn’t one in the USA. I’m still trying to get my money from Evinrude.

Plate with the engine model and serial number

Evinrude - Plate with the engine model and serial number
Good Morning I have an evinrude engine from the year 2000 and the plate with the engine model and serial number is almost illegible. At the representative in Portugal they can't get that identification plate. How can I go about getting a new plate. Thanks

Complete disappointment

I never take the time to complain about a product, issue or even compliment for that matter but I just have to tell you that Evinrude is the worst! My husband and I purchased a brand new Gen2 200hp 3 years ago. It ran great for 2 years and now it continues to breakdown. What a nightmare! Your costumer service is awful, finding parts is a train wreck and the unit is trash! We take meticulous care of our motor, service it, follow manufacturer recommendations, warranty service, etc and have nothing but problems! We count on our boat for income and this engine is costing us thousands of dollars a week. Such a complete disappointment!

E90DSLSDR Build 08/05 Cruising at idle or medium speed, the engine sometimes switches into limping mode and the max RPM is limited until engine stop and restart (reboot) is performed. The control box stores error 38 (oil pressure). The E-TEC is running with special E-TEC XD-100 oil. When looking at the small oil hoses leading from the oil pump to the engine block, small air bubbles inside the hoses are visible. Assumed that these air bubbles causing the problem, but after performing the air-out procedure (winterisation) several times, the problem still persists. When cruising, new very small air bubbles enter the hoses and the alarm is back. Contacted Evinrude direct, but got no information on this issue. They referred us to service dealers. We brought the boat and engine for trouble shooting to our local Evinrude service dealer. They indicated not to know this problem, connected dialog, checked alarm codes but found nothing wrong. Next time we had the boat out on the water, the problem persisted. Learned online from other boat operators, that this was a known problem. Checked Evinrude parts online and found new oil switch assemblies available, inclusive software update. Again we contacted Evinrude direct, but where not informed, but referred to our local dealer. Brought my boat again to the dealer and was still told that the problem was unknown, even we could see an old exchanged oil pump assembly in the workshop. But when we ask what was wrong with it, they seemed not to know. It was the Just change parts and software, dont ask questions and no more problem attitude. But as the new part kit inclusive software was very expansive and Evinrude still would not give us any information on why we had to change the oil pump, we requested our local service to just download the updated software for a try, as we could find nothing wrong with the oil pump assembly. They finally did the software update for us without the new expansive oil pump. Since that day all runs trouble free for almost three years now, without unnecessary alarms or power restrictions. No more dangerous limping situations on the open ocean. Assuming the new software had an alarm delay added to overcome the small and harmless air bubbles. Until today we have no confirmation on this issue from Evinrude or any of their dealers. It would have been very important for us to know, as our live depend on the engine on the open ocean. We gave up asking, feel unsupported and treated badly by Evinrude. It is just this arrogant cover up strategy what makes us feel bad. After all we are engineers and understand a little. Believe as Evinrude customers we deserve better. We still like the product, but for our new boat, we are reluctant to buy another engine from a company covering up on technical issues and modifications. My new engine for my new boat will not be Evinrude for this reason alone. Believe that only a product with transparent service can be trusted and hope to find it.

Evinrude Motor

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
We bought a Evinrude Motor mainly because of the name and are very ticked about it. It is 2010 E-Tec 25 hp the second year we had it had to bring in to be serviced didn't start now we have a oil leak and had to have the oil container replaced. Then to our surprise wouldn't start now the computer is faulty which that wasn't bad enough the place we bought the motor does not sell them anymore so we found a man to fix but they won't sell parts unless a dealer no dealer around unless we go 75 miles. Well then we found the part on the computer only to find out it has to be programed what a mess. So here we are without our boat and motor for 3/4 of the summer because as far as i am concerned poor customer service i just hope we can find someone to program the computer and not out the cost of the part. I would not ever buy a Evinrude again.

Rotten Transom

I have a 1990 tracker boat - 17 ' Pro V . I loved this boat for inland fishing except for the 40 HP Johnson when I had three big Guys in it . Not enough power . I also have an 18' Starcraft boat with a 75 HP Evinrude E-TEC that I only used three times since I put the new motor on three Years ago ! I decided to put the E-TEC on the Tracker, When My dealer went to switch the motors they discovered that the transom was so rotten they could push a screw driver through it ! What can I do ? Jim

2001 Evinrude Lemon

Updated by user Feb 22, 2012

Evinrude has responded favorably after receiving proof of all the work done in the last ten years on the motor and paid for the computer replacement parts and labor. The dealer also offered a new motor at $1,000 under cost, I wondered if it actually was $1,000 off so I checked with another dealer and he showed me his actual cost sheet and it was true.

Bottom line Evinrude DID step up to the plate; fixed the old motor then took it in trade, so the cost of the new one was reduced by another $2,000 ($3,000 total) and my friend is having a new motor installed on his boat.

Thank you Evinrude, you have restored faith in your company, and I am looking forward to fishing the next tournament with my friend and a trouble free motor.

Updated by user Aug 27, 2011

Since writing the review below, my friend has contacted Evinrude by written letter and Phone calls, so far there has been no response, so we are still waiting.

Will update when we know more, hopefully there will be a positive outcome.

Original review Jul 27, 2011
My friend and fishing partner is a conscientious maintenance person, he keeps everything he owns clean and well serviced. (I have sinced moved and we now love 700 miles apart but still fish tournaments together. I am also a vocationally trained mechanic.) He purchased a new 225 hp 2001 Evinrude, it has since had these issues. First, a throttle linkage slippage on one of the bottom air butterflies. Second, #5 cylinder ring centering pin came out of the piston causing a .40 deep grove in the cyl. Repair $3,800 +/- Third, after the second starter failed, I checked the alignment before installing the third starter, (the marine shop installed the others) the alignment was off, so I corrected it with shims, $800 +/- Forth, the lower unit went out, it was properly maintained, yearly grease/oil change, and it never hit bottom. $3,500 +/- Fifth, the reed valve in #3 cylinder came loose, the two screws holding it worked out, these were not removed during the overhaul because the plate was removed not the individual reed valves. $250 +/- Sixth, the computer melts *** in itself, and it has to be taken to a specific dealer for repair, 500 + miles one way. $2,500 +/- We fish tournaments together and to be honest we both wished we would have had the sponsor of the tournament brand of motor rather than the Evinrude. With out any more fan fair or threats or any thing else, Evinrude-Johnson needs to do the right thing, either reimburse the expenses, or take the motor in trade for a new one with little or no cost, money-to-boot. To buy another Evinrude at my friends expense - I don't think so! Dallas Kurt Smith 218-927-**** dadinedu@***.net

Ok so the evenrude had 200 hrs on it and it quit..had to get towed in took to dealer..he has been great..first it was an injector then it was the computer and the competer has to be sent to factory for recalibration or some ***...the factor cant provide service and turn it around so three weeks of prime boating sitting on land...thank fully i have friends with yamaha and honda engines.....consumers are not going to tollerate the ***....have your dealers prepared to service the engines they sell. Now i have heard that the EPA wont let the dealers service the computers....well then give them new ones to install while evenrude gets their act together.....take care of the customer

2005 evinrude 175 junk

I have a direct injection 175 evinrude I bought with an extended warrenty, the motor has 200 hrs on it. Was fouling a plug and found block had crack due to manufacturers defect. FPC would not cover because it was not caused by a mechanical failure,Evinrude told me to pound sand and I'm out $10000. Never buy a Johnson/Evinrude!!This is my second bad experience with this company and I should have learned the first time.If you are looking for a boat stay away from any OMC or Bombardier product. If you have one already get rid of it while it still runs.

Evinrude 75 hp E-tec Engine problem with Gas

My 2 year old Evinrude 75 hp motor started running ruff, I went to the dealer to get plugs for it thinking that the plugs should be changed. They asked why I was changing the plugs on 2 year old motor then shouldn't need to be changed for at least 3 years. I told them it was running ruff, missing and stalling out on me. They told me that there was something else going and that the motor was still under warrenty & that I should bring it in for them to look at. They called me back the next day and said they had good news and bad news. The problem with the motor was caused by the gas eating away the inside of the gas lines causing them to become soft and brittle. They needed to replace all the gas lines, fuel filter, & fuel pump for $345. Then they told me that BRP would assist in paying for the part if I signed a waiver saying they WERE NOT liable for ant thing to do with the motor again.
